Ski Patrol
September is here and, although winter may still seem to be a long way off, the Crabbe
Mountain Ski Patrol is already preparing for the 2022/2023 season.
The Canadian Ski Patrol (CSP) has been providing safety and advanced first aid support
services to Crabbe Mountain for over 45 years. For people who want to give back to the
community, being a member of ski patrol means that you are in a position to provide first aid
and rescue services on and off the ski hill.
During the winter months, a typical day for our patrol starts with a routine check of the first aid
equipment followed by inspecting and opening each of the trails to the public (“first tracks”). The
majority of the rest of the day is spent skiing/snowboarding the runs, addressing any safety
issues that arise and providing first aid support to any incidents that may occur. At the end of
the day, the team closes and “sweeps” the hill (goes down each run) to make sure that all
patrons have made it safely off the hill. This coming season will have some added excitement
with the Crabbe Mountain hosting 2 on-hill events for the 2023 Canada Winter Games being
held from February 18th through March 5th.
Over the past 15+ years, the Crabbe Patrol has extended its first aid support to the broader
community at many local sports, entertainment and charity events throughout Fredericton and
the surrounding area. You have likely seen us at the Fredericton Marathon and Harvest Music
Festival as well as may of the sporting events held at Woolastook and Mactaquac Parks over
the past several summers.
If any of this sounds like fun to you or peaks your interest, we would love to have you join us! No
experience is required; all training will be provided.
To get things started, we will be hosting an information session via video conference on
Wednesday, September 21 st at 7:00 PM. Please drop us a line via either e-mail at
dmorgan1055@gmail.com or by text at 1-506-321-1188 if you’d like to join the call and we’ll
send you a return e-mail with the call-in information (please provide your e-mail address if
you’re contacting us via text message). You can also let us know if this date and time don’t work
for you and something else can be arranged.
